Despite a looming deadline, Russia and Ukraine failed to reach a gas deal during EU-mediated talks in Kiev on Sunday, but agreed to continue negotiations.
The negotiations failed to produce any “results” so far, a source told Reuters.
Another source told the news agency that the talks are not over yet, but there has been “nothing so far.”
Russian gas giant Gazprom head Aleksey Miller, Ukrainian PM Arseny Yatsenyuk, and EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger are taking part in the talks, a source told RIA Novosti.
The deadline to settle the dispute is 06:00 GMT on Monday, otherwise Russia will switch to an advance payment system, meaning it will stop supplying gas to Ukraine. The measure is written in the contract, but has several times been postponed in order to continue negotiations.
The previous round of talks over the price of Russian gas for Ukraine failed to reach a solution to the standing Ukrainian $1.95 billion gas debt.
