Russia-Ukraine-E.U. gas talks can be held on September 16 in Vienna, aide to the chairman of Ukraine’s energy company Naftogaz Ukrainy Yury Vitrenko said late Tuesday.
“We have talked with Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, a representative of the European Commission’s energy department. According to him, the working date for the meeting is September 16,” Vitrenko said, adding that the meeting can be held in several places, and Vienna is one of them.
The trilateral talks were suspended in June after Russia and Ukraine failed to agree on repayment of a U.S. $5.3 billion debt and gas prices. On June 16, Russia’s Gazprom switched Ukraine off gas supplies. On Monday, E.U. energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger said the talks will take place until mid-September.
